THE wife of Carlos Ghosn today spoke out about her husband’s arrest and imprisonment, saying there was a conspiracy at Nissan to oust him.

Ghosn was arrested last November on charges of financial misconduct and remains in jail awaiting trial. He strongly denies the allegations.

He was credited with saving Nissan via alliances with Renault and Mitsubishi and was plotting a full merger with Renault, fiercely resisted by business leaders in Japan.

Carole Ghosn, pictured with Carlos, told the BBC she is concerned about the 65-year-old’s health.

“It was a conspiracy to get rid of him. The lawyers told me that anything I say could hurt him in the trial, so to keep my mouth shut. But I want my husband back… I know he is innocent.”

Nissan rejected the conspiracy claim, saying: “The sole cause of this chain of events is the misconduct led by Carlos Ghosn.”
