Carlos Corberan's emotional farewell message to Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United

Carlos Corberan has penned an open letter to Leeds United fans after leaving the club to take over at Huddersfield Town.

The 37-year-old has finally agreed to terms with the Terriers more than one month after their initial approach to take their top job.

Corberan was offered significantly more money at The John Smith’s Stadium and a chance to take, by far, the most senior and high profile role of his career.

The Spaniard succeeds manager Danny Cowley, who was sacked on Sunday just two days after beating West Brom.

Hailing from Valencia, Spain, Corberan holds a UEFA Pro License and is known for his strength in coaching having worked alongside Marcelo Bielsa since his arrival in England.

And Corberan has been quick to praise those at Elland Road, including a special mention for head coach Marcelo Bielsa, after news of his exit being confirmed.

He wrote: “I write these lines with pride of having being part of the great family of Leeds United, with the nostalgia of having completed a stage of 3 unforgettable years in my life, and with the illusion of being able to continue developing my passion as a coach.

“The first thing I would like to say is thank you to those people who have gave me the opportunity to join such a special programme. Victor Orta and Ivan Bravo. I hope to be able to one day repay them for everything I have experienced over this journey. Victor Orta and his team deserve like no other what has been achieved. The faith and energy they put on what they do is inexhaustible.

“Thank you to all the people who are part of the Club. From the cleaning, security and kitchen worker in the academy, the administration and communication team, to the staff that works in the first team, with whom I have lived through so many experiences. It is my belief that it is impossible to achieve success if there is not a great human value behind it.

“In addition, I would like to give my absolute gratitude to Andrea Radrizzani, who has shown his clear conviction for me as a coach, trusting on my incorporation to the first team staff in order to fulfil his arm.

“My special mention is to one of the people who most dignifies the profession of football coaching: Marcelo Bielsa. If it is true that we can all have an impact on each other’s lives, being able to live this experience with Marcelo multiplies this improvement path. After two years of work at his side, every single minute has resulted in a new learning. Thank God that football has been fair to him, that he continues to give his life to improve this amazing sport.

“These three seasons at Leeds have provided me many memories, unique moments, experiences with footballers who have left and others who will continue to leave a great legacy behind this club. I wish them much happiness and moments of adversity that undoubtedly prepared us to achieve something so special.

“Lastly, I would like to say goodbye to the greatest capital of the club: its fans. Every day, every game, every year, showing us unconditional loyalty. I feel immense joy at having done everything I could to get the club back to the category it belongs. That is why I’m absolutely delighted to have achieved the dream I had when I arrived at Leeds, helping the club return to the Premier League.

“Carlos Corberán.”
