Leeds United Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan has highlighted the importance of the club's younger players getting the chance to play under-23s football alongside some of the club's senior players.
Corberan made the admission after watching his side beat Watford 6-0 at Elland Road on Monday night to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Amongst the experienced trio of Gaetano Berardi, Barry Douglas and Jack Clarke, all of whom started the contest, Corberan included Stuart McKinstry, who has only turned 17 this week, in the starting line-up, meaning he was given the chance to showcase his qualities in a significantly higher age bracket.
Assessing the importance of giving younger players the chance to learn from older heads within the squad, Corberan told LUTV : "I think the most positive thing is that we played with three players in the first half from the first-team with three chances taken.
"I think it is very positive when we are watching this mix (youth and experience). We had one player who was 16-years-old playing with a player with high first-team experience like (Gaetano) Berardi and Luke Ayling, so I think this mix can help a lot of our young players to develop themselves.
"This will let them see that they can play with players who can give examples of how you have to live the games.
"I also think it is very important to have this relationship in this club. It can be a key success at this level."
Corberan may offer further opportunities to the club's younger players when they face Yorkshire neighbours Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Friday lunchtime, kick-off 1.00pm.
