Carlos Alcaraz v Jiri Lehecka live: Tennis score and result from Queen’s final

Carlos Alcaraz has beaten Czech big-hitter Jiri Lehecka in the men’s final at Queen’s Club.

Alcaraz survived a scare against fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar in the second round and improved his grass game since then, defeating Arthur Rinderknech and Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarter-finals and semis. The defending Wimbledon champion has found his rhythm and a second Queen’s crown today, following his triumph over Alex de Minaur in the final two years ago, is perfect preparation for SW19.

Alcaraz endured a stern test from Lehecka, the 23-year-old who came through a fierce battle with Jack Draper to reach his first ATP 500 final. The world No 30 used his powerful serve – a perfect weapon for grass – to clinch the second set, but it wasn’t enough, eventually going down 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Follow all the reaction from the Queen’s final between Alcaraz and Lehecka below.

Djokovic? Sinner? They are going to need something special in a couple of weeks’ time to stop Alcaraz from winning a third Wimbledon title in a row.

That was supreme from Alcaraz, serving with incredible speed and accuracy, firing 18 aces in all. He won 87 per cent of points on his first serve, and 72 per cent on his second – Lehecka never laid a glove.

It should be said that Lehecka served very well too, but Alcaraz’s ability to reach the furthest ball and somehow get it back in play eventually got under the Czech’s skin, drawing enough mistakes to make the difference in the match.

Carlos Alcaraz wins at Queen’s again!

At 15-30, he kills off the rally with a pinpoint forehand winner to set up two match points, and he only needs one as Lehecka dumps a backhand into the net.

That is about as ruthless a hold as it gets by Alcaraz, with an ace, a couple of unreturnable serves and a textbook serve-and-volley winner.

Alcaraz wins a brilliant point, fetching a drop shot at the net and then rushing back to the baseline to play an unreturnable lob, and he turns to the crowd with his ear cupped.

Lehecka replies with an ace.

*Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 6-6 (2-4) Jiri Lehecka

15:49

On serve at 3-2 to Lehecka in the tie-break, the Czech gets an almost identical chance to the one he wasted in the previous game and this time he makes no mistake, hammering home the forehand winner from mid-court to pick up a mini-break before the change of ends.

Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 6-6 Jiri Lehecka*

15:45 , Lawrence Ostlere

Lehecka plays a brilliant drop-shot volley on the run, with Henman-esque touch, to set up 30-all and a small chance on the Alcaraz serve. The ball sits up nicely by the net on the very next point and he surely must bury it... but he blasts a routine forehand long! The entire crowd groans, what a miss with the court open wide. Alcaraz fights through to hold.

Tie-break.

Alcaraz digs in to earn himself deuce and apply some pressure, but Lehecka responds brilliantly, killing off the game with a backhand pass down the line as the Spaniard tried to rush to the net.

Alcaraz had lost only six points on his serve all match before this game – now he’s lost seven after whipping a forehand into the net. But it’s another easy hold.

*Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 3-4 Jiri Lehecka

15:22 , Lawrence Ostlere

Lehecka is made to work marginally harder for his latest hold but not much, serving his way out of a tight spot to keep his nose in front.

Can he come up with something to earn a first break point in this match?

Alcaraz plays a delightful drop shot in the midst of a game that is otherwise dominated by the power of Lehecka, and the Czech is looking tough to break right now.

The first set was a very close affair with Carlos Alcaraz only getting the break of serve late on.

The second set has started in similar fashion with both players easing into holds of serve from the first two games.

SET! - Carlos Alcaraz 7-5 Jiri Lehecka

14:57 , Mike Jones

What can Jiri Lehecka muster when the chips are down.

A fine forehand gets him a point to take the game to 15-15 but Alcaraz aces to nudge ahead.

He serves wide to the backhand which Lehecka can’t get over the net and has a couple of set points.

Another wide serve, this one to the forehand sees Lehecka drive his return wide!

Alcaraz takes the first set.

BREAK! - *Carlos Alcaraz 6-5 Jiri Lehecka

14:55 , Mike Jones

Unreal! Carlos Alcaraz makes six returns of serve in a row to meet Jiri Lehecka with supreme control.

Alcaraz forces his opponent off balance and off centre. At 30-30, Alcaraz drives through the next two points, taking the break and with it the momentum in the first set.

Carlos Alcaraz 5-5 Jiri Lehecka*

14:49 , Mike Jones

Alcaraz lofts a backhand too long and the first point of this next game goes to Lehecka.

There’s been little challenge to Alcaraz’s serve as yet but Lehecka takes a second point with a blistering return of serve and moves 0-30 up.

Alcaraz must hold here or else he loses the first set. He serves wide and aces!

The pressure lessens again as Alcaraz works a forehand past Lehecka for another winner.

At 30-30, Lehecka drives a return long before a serve down the centre brings Alcaraz his hold.

*Carlos Alcaraz 4-5 Jiri Lehecka

14:45 , Mike Jones

Pace and power from Lehecka does well for the Czech who moves quickly to a 30-0 lead.

A wide serve to the forehand brings him another point as Alcaraz whips his return into the net.

Lehecka serves wide again and lands the ball on the sideline which results in an ace!

Hold of serve to love.

Carlos Alcaraz 4-4 Jiri Lehecka*

14:43 , Mike Jones

The first set is heading quickly towards the business end and there’s a bit of pressure on Carlos Alcaraz. He needs to hold to keep things on serve.

There seems to be no danger though.

Alcaraz starts off with another wide second serve ace before taking the next point as Lehecka fails to get back a return.

Alcaraz then brings Lehecka forward with a drop shot and trots back to get to the lob. The Spaniard plays a lob of his own which lands in play and confuses his opponent who thought it was landing out.

Another ace gives Alcaraz a hold.

Wow! Alcaraz pushes a return of serve over the net but is met by a more forceful driving response from Lehecka who takes the point.

He brings out the fist pump and moves to 30-15. Alcaraz then goes long in the next rally and Lehecka forces him into the net with a fine serve next up.

He’s leading this first set and the Czech is playing great tennis.

Carlos Alcaraz 3-3 Jiri Lehecka*

14:37 , Mike Jones

Alcaraz’s serve is no joke either.

He’s on second serve and decides to go wide with pace. Lechecka watches it go past and nods his head in acknowledgement of how good that was.

Alcaraz moves quickly to 30-0 then whips a forehand from the middle of court past a darting Lehecka to add a third point in this game.

Another hold to love for the Spaniard.

*Carlos Alcaraz 2-3 Jiri Lehecka

14:32 , Mike Jones

It’s a big chance now!

Alcaraz moves to advantage and earns the first break point of the match. Lechecka shuts him down immediately with a rapid ace!

The Czech then rolls his wrists over a powerful forehand and drills a winner past Alcaraz to go to advantage himself.

He holds serve.

Carlos Alcaraz 2-2 Jiri Lehecka*

14:30 , Mike Jones

A 135mph serve from Lecheka is too quick for Alcaraz to control his return which loops well wide.

The serve is Lecheka’s best weapon. Trying to battle Alcaraz toe-to-toe is going to be tough and the Spaniard has won both points in this game when a rally has lasted longer than four shots.

At 30-30, Lechecka serves to the body and Alcaraz can’t get his forehand over the net.

Lecheka gets a touch unlucky with a driving forehand. The ball clips the tape and lands just wide meaning Alcaraz has a chance at deuce.

Carlos Alcaraz 2-2 Jiri Lehecka*

14:27 , Mike Jones

Alcaraz starts his next service game with an ace!

He takes the next point too as Lechecka is slightly off balance and whips a backhand out of play.

Dropping to a second serve, Alcaraz targets the body and forces Lecheka to drive through a backhand. It’s slighty too strong and the ball lands past the baseline.

The fourth rally is the best one from the Czech who meets Alcaraz in a battle of backhands. The Spaniard triumphs though with a blistering forehand winner down the line.

Hold of serve to love.

*Carlos Alcaraz 1-2 Jiri Lehecka

14:23 , Mike Jones

Nice and confident from Lechecka. Alcaraz scoops a looping return over the net and the Czech meets it with a driving forehand to win the point.

That aggression will do him good as this match goes on. A sharp serve down the middle sees Alcaraz whip a forehand into the net.

Attempting to close out the game Lechecka smokes a forehand towards the baseline but just lands it too long. He has another point to play with and secures his hold when Alcaraz miscues a backhand well wide.

Carlos Alcaraz 1-1 Jiri Lehecka*

14:20 , Mike Jones

That’s lovely. Alcaraz dinks a fine volley over the net after a quick approach and Lecheka does not even attempt to get up to the ball.

The Czech errs in the next rally too and puts his opponent on the brink of a hold.

Alcaraz misses his first serve but goes down the centre with his second. There’s a touch of extra bounce and Lechecka drills a backhand return too long.

All square.

*Carlos Alcaraz 0-1 Jiri Lehecka

14:17 , Mike Jones

The Czech is a heavy server and troubles Alcaraz a couple of times when his first serve lands in play.

When Lechecka misses, Alcaraz takes advantage. With rallies going long Alcaraz has a better defence and wins himself a couple of points.

Lecheka does enough to hold serve comfortably but he’ll need to settle quickly into the match.

Carlos Alcaraz 0-0 Jiri Lehecka*

14:13 , Mike Jones

Jiri Lehecka has the opening service game of the match. He goes down the middle to Carlos Alcaraz’s backhand and the Spaniard floats back a return.

Lechecka drives the ball to the baseline and comes up to the net to meet the ball on the volley for his next shot. He goes across court with a drop shot but Alcaraz sweeps forward and gets to the ball only managing to flick it into the tape.

First point to Lecheka. 15-0.

Lechecka and Alcaraz are introduced onto the court and both received loud rounds of applause.

Alcaraz perhaps edging the cheers from the British crowd as lots of Spanish supporters are making themselves heard.

The five-time Grand Slam champion is the favourite to win today but Lecheka has his eyes on the title.

Speaking ahead of the match he said: “It’s going to be a great match again, I’m looking forward to it and I’ll do everything I can to get a title.”

Carlos Alcaraz comes into today’s final on the back of a 17-match winning streak which includes the French Open final.

The Spaniard has won at Queen’s once before and is the favourite to win a second title here this afternoon.

His opponent is Czech world No. 30 Jiri Lehecka. Lehecka defeated Jack Draper in the semi-finals and is now playing in his first grass-court singles final.

Alcaraz and Raducanu to team up in doubles

14:01 , Lawrence Ostlere

Earlier this year the US Open announced a new-look mixed doubles tournament to take place in the week preceding the major. With a winning purse of $1m, top singles players have been encouraged to participate in a two-day, quick-scoring format. For the tradition of grand-slam tennis, it is quite the radical shake-up.

And there’s no doubting where the main stardust pairing lies. Five-time major winner Alcaraz, the sport’s hottest property right now, is set to compete in a box-office duo alongside British No 1 Emma Raducanu.

Lehecka, 23, is the first Czech man to reach a top level grasscourt final for 15 years. The last Czech man to reach a top-level grasscourt final was Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon in 2010 and the last to do so at Queen's was Ivan Lendl in 1990.

These two have met twice before, once here at Queen’s in 2023 when Alcaraz won in straight sets en route to the title. But Lehecka came out on top when they played in Doha earlier this year with a three-set victory.

How they got here: Alcaraz cruises past Bautista Agut

13:15 , Lawrence Ostlere

Alcaraz, Queen's champion in 2023, was stretched to the absolute limit against compatriot Jaume Munar earlier in the week during a tussle lasting more than three hours.

But he was more comfortable against Bautista Agut, who provided stubborn resistance but never really looked like springing an upset on a sultry afternoon in west London.

An early break of serve in each set proved sufficient for Alcaraz, who reached his fifth final in a row.

"I'm feeling I'm playing great tennis and feeling more comfortable," said Alcaraz, who won his fifth Grand Slam title this month at the French Open.

"I love stepping on court and love playing with a smile on my face. That's why I'm making good results."

How they got here: Alcaraz cruises past Bautista Agut

13:02 , Lawrence Ostlere

Carlos Alcaraz swept past fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut on Saturday to stretch his winning streak and set up a Queen's Club final against Czech Jiri Lehecka.

Top seed Alcaraz, 22, had too much firepower for his 37-year-old opponent during a 6-4 6-4 victory, his 17th successive win and the 250th of his career.

Draper dug deep impressively to level the match after dropping the first set, but Lehecka, regularly firing down serves touching 140mph, was stronger down the finishing straight.

The 23-year-old became the first Czech to reach the final at Queen’s since Ivan Lendl in 1990 after a 6-4 4-6 7-5 victory.

How they got here: Lahecka sinks home hope Draper

12:44 , Lawrence Ostlere

“It was bit of everything, really,” Draper said. “The way I was sort of playing at times. Obviously the fact that I’ve worked so hard to get myself in that position. I really tried to get myself up, get the energy going.

“When you see that ball go past you on that point, you know, it’s very tough to see yourself breaking in the next game, although I tried my best on that.

“I don’t condone that behaviour, but at the same time, that’s kind of where I was at today.

“I was trying to use everything I could. I tried to compete every ball. But in the end, anger just spilled over a little bit too much.”

How they got here: Lahecka sinks home hope Draper

12:37 , Lawrence Ostlere

Jack Draper revealed he was suffering with tonsillitis after making an angry exit from Queen’s Club.

The British number one smashed his racket, damaging a digital advertising hoarding and grazing his knee, as his semi-final against Jiri Lehecka slipped away from him.

Draper explained he was low on energy due to the illness and was getting angry in a bid to gee himself up.

But when world number 30 Lehecka fizzed a backhand past him to break for 6-5 in the deciding set, the 23-year-old exploded with rage.
