Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from Wimbledon with a wrist injury.
The Spaniard, a two-time champion on the southwest London grass, withdrew from the Barcelona Open earlier this year after first sustaining the injury, and will miss the French Open due to the same problem.
He has now confirmed that he will play no part at Wimbledon 2026.
Alcaraz wrote on Instagram: “My recovery is going well and I'm feeling much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon.
“They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot.
“We'll keep working to come back as soon as possible.”
Alcaraz won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, but was beaten at the final hurdle in four sets by long-time rival Jannik Sinner last year.
This injury will also deny him the opportunity to defend his Queen’s Club title, which he picked up last year by beating Jiri Lehecka in three sets.
The Spaniard remains second in world rankings in spite of his ongoing injury woes.
Alcaraz’s withdrawal from Wimbledon will leave Sinner as a comfortable favourite to defend his title and take the top prize in SW19 again this year.
He is also odds-on to take the title at Roland Garros this year.
He will be wary of Novak Djokovic’s recent resurgence, though, as the legendary Serb has found fresh form in recent months and is now back in pursuit of a first Grand Slam title since 2023.
