Carlos Alcaraz beats Alex de Minaur in Queen’s final to claim first title on grass

Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur in the final at Queen’s to win his first title on grass.

The Spaniard won 6-4, 6-4 and his triumph means he regains his world No1 ranking and will be the top seed at Wimbledon ahead of Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz, who was playing only his third grass-court tournament, will now set his sights on a winning at Wimbledon.

The tournament at the All England Club starts on July 3.

Alcaraz said: “It helps a lot, to be top seed at Wimbledon. It’s amazing. I started the tournament not really well, I had to adapt my movement a bit on grass. But it’s been an amazing week and ending with a lot of energy and a high so coming to Wimbledon like this is good.

"It means a lot to have my name on the trophy. I’ve watched this tournament since I started playing tennis. It is special for me to play here, so many legends have won here and seeing my name on the trophy surrounded by the great champions is amazing for me.”
