Carlo Cudicini's first words after being appointed new Chelsea loan player technical coach

Carlo Cudicini is the new Chelsea loan player technical coach, and the Blues legend couldn't be more excited.

The Italian takes over the role from Eddie Newton following his promotion to Frank Lampard's backroom staff and an announcement was made on Friday afternoon.

Cudicini has been back at Stamford Bridge since 2015 initially as a club ambassador and was part coaching staff under both Antonio Conte as well as Maurizio Sarri in recent years.

His job is to oversee the progress of Chelsea's loan players this season.

This means he will be keeping a close eye on the likes of Dujon Sterling, Ethan Ampadu, Conor Gallagher, Charly Musonda and Jake Clarke-Salter throughout the 2019/2020 campaign.

Speaking to the club's official website after the announcement was made, Cudicini is grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to get started.

"I'm really looking forward to this new challenge in my coaching career," he said.

"The loan programme is an important part of our development pathway for young players at the club and this is an exciting opportunity to work with the next generation of talented players."

As part of this backroom reshuffle, former Chelsea reserve goalkeeper James Russell starts a dual role working with Hilario as assistant men's team goalkeeper coach.

The 31-year old will combine his new role with existing goalkeeper coaching in the club's Academy.

Meanwhile, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has said: "We are delighted Carlo has agreed to take over from Eddie Newton in this key role in our development programme.

"Carlo has years of experience from a playing career spanning Italian, English and US football, and has followed that by making a successful transition into coaching.

"His knowledge of the game and mentoring will be an important asset in the continued development of our young players."
