Carlo Ancelotti to meet Napoli chiefs over future on Wednesday amid Arsenal links

Carlo Ancelotti says he hopes to remain as Napoli head coach amid reports he could be sacked.

A nine-match winless run, ended on Tuesday evening with a 4-0 victory over Genk to secure progression to the Champions League knockout stages, has left the former Chelsea coach on the brink.

Both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport claimed before the game that Ancelotti was set to be fired whatever the result and replaced by former AC Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso.

Ancelotti, who has been linked with the Arsenal vacancy and reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League, says a meeting club owner and president Aurelio De Laurentiis has been scheduled for Wednesday.

"We agreed to have a meeting," he said.

"I hope to stay but that is a decision the president will make. This team has quality which they have shown in the Champions League but not in the league.

"They haven't said anything to me, I was just preparing the match. Will I resign? I've never done that in my life."
