Carlo Ancelotti sets Everton victory ultimatum for Europe

Carlo Ancelotti says Everton need five wins from their final seven games to book a return to Europe.

The Blues, who face Arsenal tomorrow night, have 49 points from 31 matches and are eighth in the table.

Everton are six points off the top four but have a game in hand on the sides immediately above them.

Last week's draw with Tottenham Hotspur was a missed opportunity to put pressure on the teams ahead but Ancelotti is still confident his side can secure a place in Europe for next season.

Yet the Blues boss has made it clear that it will take another five victories to do so.

“I’m sure [we can get into Europe],” Ancelotti said.

“We have seven games until the end of the season and we need to win five to be in Europe.

“We have to keep fighting.

“We still have seven games and the race is there.

“Of course, we dropped four points in the draws with Crystal Palace and Tottenham when we deserved to win.

“Against Tottenham, we pressed with intensity and didn’t give them the opportunity to create chances.

“We were more active defensively and the defensive line was a little bit higher.

“We missed some chances. We must try to avoid this. At this level, it is important to avoid mistakes.”
