Carlo Ancelotti sends message to referee after Leicester penalty incident

Carlo Ancelotti thanked the video assistant referee for asking official Lee Mason to review his penalty decision against Leicester City.

Ayoze Perez went down in the box under pressure from Andre Gomes and Mason pointed to the spot to give the hosts hope of getting back into the game with less than 10 minutes left.

Everton were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Richarlison and Mason Holgte but Leicester thought they had a golden chance to set up a grandstand finish at the King Power.

But the VAR, Darren English, asked Mason to look at his decision again and review on the pitchside monitor.

And it was when he looked again that he saw that Gomes had, in fact, won the ball.

Ancelotti was pleased to see the technology bring about the correct decision.

"Thanks to the VAR," he said.

"It was not a penalty.

"It was a difficult decision. From the pitch I think it could be a penalty but, in the end, Andre touches the ball clearly."

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers said he was "disappointed" that VAR helped Mason overturn his decision saying: "Down at pitchside, you could hear the contact."
