Carlo Ancelotti sends blunt Everton squad message after Goodison Park admission

Carlo Ancelotti was in no mood to sugar coat Everton's defeat to Aston Villa saying: "We deserved to lose."

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had brought the Blues level six minutes after Ollie Watkins pounced on a Mason Holgate mistake to open the scoring but Anwar El-Ghazi put Villa back in front with 10 minutes remaining.

Ancelotti was struggling to explain the defeat, his side's performance and the on-going issues at Goodison.

"Not good enough. Not good enough," Ancelotti said.

"It was completely different from the last game we played against Arsenal where we played with more concentration, more spirit and more attitude.

"The start of the game was really bad. There was no concentration, a lot of passes were wrong and there was no balance. We had opportunities we also conceded a lot and, at the end of the day, we deserved to lose.

"It is difficult to say why we had this kind of home run....but this is the reality. We are still in the fight [for Europe] but not for what we did at home, but for what we did away.

"We are a completely different team with a completely different attitude."
