Carlo Ancelotti's makes blunt admission about Everton's victory over Arsenal

Carlo Ancelotti has provided an honest assessment of his side's victory over Arsenal, admitting that a draw would have probably been a fair result from the encounter.

The Blues managed to secure all three points at the Emirates Stadium thanks to an own goal from Bernd Leno in the second half as the Gunners goalkeeper attempted to stop a low cross from Richarlison across the box.

That was Everton's first win away to Arsenal since 1996 and ended a run of five matches without a victory in the Premier League.

However, Ancelotti was honest after the match and admitted his side were a little fortunate to come away with all three points.

The Everton boss remarked: "It's an important result, an important victory.

"It comes after a difficult period where we were not able to win, we had players injured - now we have a lot of players back and a good result.

"Honestly we were a little bit lucky, I think the fair result was a draw. But anyway, we were a little bit lucky with the VAR decisions.

"But it's three points and we keep fighting for the rest of the season."

That win opens up a six point gap to Arsenal in ninth place, while keeping Everton in eighth in the Premier League table.

However the Blues are, at the time of writing, three points behind Chelsea in fourth place - having played the same amount of matches as those above them.

And Ancelotti knows how important that result can be in terms of securing European football at the end of the term.

"I think that this time has improved compared to last season," the boss added.

"Now we are in the fight for the European position and this is where we wanted to be at the start of the season. We are there with six games to the end, and we have to do our best every game."

"This result is important, if we are able to keep the consistency and solidity we had tonight."
