Carlo Ancelotti's classy reaction to dramatic Newcastle United comeback vs Everton

Carlo Ancelotti believes Everton deserved to win against Newcastle United but admits 'sometimes in football things happen that you cannot control' following the Magpies' remarkable comeback.

Moise Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin looked to have given the Toffees all three points but the Magpies came alive in stoppage time.

Florian Lejeune scored his first ever goal, an overhead kick, for the black-and-whites in the 94th-minute before firing home a dramatic equaliser a minute later following a goalmouth scramble.

Everton had more possession, more shots and more corners and while Bruce told Ancelotti he did not expect to draw the game, the Italian spoke magnanimously after his side threw away a two-goal lead.

"I think there are things in football that are unpredictable. Until the first goal, no one could think Newcastle could control the game. Me, too, because we played really well," he told reporters after the 2-2 draw.

"We deserved to win but we have to accept the result because sometimes in football, things happen that you cannot control.

"It's true that we could stay more focused on set-pieces. It's true that we could stay more focused in the last minutes but I think the team made a fantastic game for all the 90 minutes so we are disappointed, of course, but, on the other side, we are really pleased with the performance."

After claiming 30 points from their opening 24 league games, Newcastle are now level on points with Everton, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
