Carlo Ancelotti responds to likely Liverpool reaction should Premier League void season

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti admits he would “understand” if neighbours Liverpool find unfair a decision to scrap the Premier League season.

The Reds are a record 25 points clear at the summit and need only two more wins from their remaining nine games to be crowned champions for the first time in 30 years.

However, the season is currently suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, with several struggling clubs keen to void the campaign so they can start afresh later this year.

No decision has yet been made over the future of the Premier League with UEFA keen for domestic leagues to conclude, even if that means continuing far beyond the usual cut-off date of June 30.

And asked if he would understand why Liverpool would find unfair the campaign not resuming, Ancelotti said: “Yes, I understand. But what matters today is that the health of all people is assured.

“We should only think about that. It is for this reason that we must follow the advice of the government to the letter and stay home. This is the priority. Only the government can make the decisions.”

Ancelotti, speaking to L’Equipe via Sports Witness, added: “Football is not my priority right now.

“In fact, I don’t care if we will resume in June, July or August. Really. First there are lives to think about today.”
