Carlo Ancelotti reiterates Everton's keeper stance and makes claim about Jordan Pickford competition

Carlo Ancelotti insists that Everton's back-up goalkeepers are putting the "right" pressure on Jordan Pickford.

Pickford has been the Blues' No1 since he arrived from Sunderland in the summer of 2017, playing in every league game since and only missing eight matches in total.

The 26-year-old has come under fresh scrutiny after his errors led to Fleetwood scoring twice in 10 second-half minutes in Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie.

Everton 's dominance did see them pegged back to 3-2 but Ancelotti 's side scored twice more to secure a safe passage through to round four.

The Blues boss has strongly backed Pickford, stressing that people must remember how good he was against Spurs on the opening day of the season, and believes that he is being pushed by Jonas Lossl and Joao Virginia.

Ancelotti has ruled out buying a new stopper before the transfer window closes next month.

"They are working well, they are professional, they are serious and they have a good relationship with Jordan," Ancelotti said.

"They put on him, the right pressure, as a No2 or a No3 they put pressure on the first goalkeeper."

Ancelotti insists that Pickford is performing at a level that will help Everton reach their European ambitions this season.

"He is, because he showed this level on September 13," the Blues boss said.

"Fifteen days ago he showed a fantastic level and everyone saw this when we played against Tottenham. After 15 days he didn't lose this level, he is still there. I agree he could do better against Fleetwood but, as I said, it was not an individual mistake."
