Carlo Ancelotti: no contact from Chelsea over manager’s job

Carlo Ancelotti has not been contacted by Chelsea over the vacant manager’s position, the Italian has told the Guardian. The 56-year-old managed the club between 2009 and 2011, winning the Premier League title and FA Cup in this first season, and has been linked with a return to west London.

However, Ancelotti has not been approached by the Chelsea hierarchy as they look for an 11th manager in 12 years, with Guus Hiddink the favourite to take the reins until the end of the season.

The Italian has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich when, as expected, Pep Guardiola leaves at the end of the current Bundesliga campaign, but did not want to comment on his future.

The Italian hinted last week that he has been taking German lessons, saying: “German is very difficult but if it was possible for Giovanni Trapattoni, I can do that also,” referring to his compatriot’s spells at Bayern Munich in the 1990s.

Ancelotti has been on a sabbatical since leaving Real Madrid last summer following three hugely successful years at the Spanish club, leading the club to their 10th European Cup in 2014.
