Carlo Ancelotti names dream Everton signing and reveals Duncan Ferguson 'difficulties'

Carlo Ancelotti has named Italian legend Paolo Maldini as his dream Everton signing.

Ancelotti played with Maldini at AC Milan before later making him captain of the club during his successful eight-year stint as manager.

The pair won two Champions League titles together as well as the Serie A before the now Everton boss was appointed by Chelsea and Maldini retired in 2009.

Ancelotti was asked by Sky Sports who his all-time ideal transfer would be at Everton and admitted bringing a prime Maldini to Goodison Park would be 'nice'.

He said: "No doubt! Paolo Maldini because he is my friend, he was my team-mate, he was my captain and he is a funny guy!

"He is a top guy, top player, so no doubt it would be Paolo Maldini. It would be nice."

Ancelotti also laughed off the 'difficulties' of understanding the Scottish accent of joint-assistant manager Duncan Ferguson.

The 61-year-old kept former Everton striker Ferguson as part of his staff after the sacking of Marco Silva in 2019 and the pair have formed a positive working relationship alongside fellow assistant Davide Ancelotti.

Ancelotti continued: "I still have difficulties but I'm working on it!

"I tell him, 'Duncan, speak slowly, please!' But it doesn't matter. I'm used to the Scouse accent. I try to understand."
