Carlo Ancelotti makes Richarlison announcement and sends message to Everton supporters

Carlo Ancelotti said he wished Everton fans could have been at Anfield to witness the historic win over Liverpool.

The Italian sprang a surprise pre-match by only naming Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Allan on the bench after their return to fitness following injuries.

Yet the Toffees got off to a perfect start with James Rodriguez setting up Richarlison after just three minutes before Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late penalty sealed the three points.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Ancelotti said he was delighted with the victory and praised the quality of Richarlison and James.

He said: “I’m really pleased and really happy for the club and the supporters, of course. I would’ve loved our supporters to be here tonight, but for sure, they are going to celebrate tonight.

“It was a good performance, a lot of fight, a lot of spirit. Really happy.”

He added: “Richarlison is back, he’s back because now he’s scoring and is playing with a lot of consistency.

“James is always the same, maybe he doesn’t have the physicality of the others, but has the quality.”

Ancelotti also urged his side to improve their form at Goodison Park but he feels they are well in the hunt for European qualification.

He said: “We did really well away, but at home, we have a lot of problems, we’ve lost a lot of games.

“We have to find more consistency at home and we are working on this.

“We are fighting for Europe and now we are in a good position. Of course, this kind of performance can improve the belief of the team.”
