Carlo Ancelotti makes Jordan Pickford admission after Everton's 'complete game'

Carlo Ancelotti said Everton delivered the “complete game” in defeating Brighton – but insisted it was “not the right place” to talk about Jordan Pickford's latest error.

Everton returned to the top of the table after seeing off the Seagulls 4-2 at Goodison today.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his ninth of the season to break the deadlock but the Blues were pegged back near the end of the first-half when Pickford spilled a weak shot, allowing Neal Maupay to level from close range.

Everton would respond, however, with Yerry Mina heading home James Rodriguez 's free-kick before the summer signing scored twice after the break.

Ancelotti's side would concede a late Yves Bissouma strike in time-added on but little could dampen the manager's mood afterwards – especially not Pickford's mistake.

“He did a mistake but nothing happened,” Ancelotti said. “We have three points and that is the most important part.”

Asked again about Pickford, the Blues boss said: “I think this is not the right place to talk about Jordan. If I say something it will be when he comes back, I am going to talk to him.”

Everton's win at Goodison maintained their 100% start to the campaign in all competition and took their goals tally to 24.

“Yes, we are really pleased with the start, we did really well in this period, winning games and showing our quality,” Ancelotti said.

“The spirit was good. We are really pleased but this is only the start of the season.

“Now we have an international break when we can rest. It was a busy time and hopefully we can come back with the same spirit and the same attitude.

“In general the attacking football was good because we had opportunities.

“We were really clinical in set-pieces and really good on the counter-attack. We played a complete game. We defended with a low block, in a good position and defended well. So I am pleased.”
