Carlo Ancelotti makes Everton transfer admission as Marcel Brands talks loom

Carlo Ancelotti insists he has not held any talks with the Everton hierarchy over plans for the January transfer window - and that such discussions have to wait.

The Blues boss is adamant his focus is on a "difficult period" between now and Christmas with his side facing Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League, as well as a Carabao Cup quarter-final with Manchester United.

Ancelotti's side also take on Leeds United and Burnley with a trip to Leicester City yet to be confirmed but potentially coming in mid-December.

The Everton manager last week tried to play down talk of interest in Real Madrid playmaker Isco but says no talks have taken place with director of football Marcel Brands and the rest of the club's power-brokers.

“No, we didn't have a discussions about this," Ancelotti said.

"I think we have time to talk about this. In this moment we are focused on our game, on our season and we want to move forward, quickly, from a difficult period.”

Ancelotti and Brands weighed up making moves in last January's transfer window, with midfield reinforcements at the centre of their discussions.

But the decision was taken that Everton would keep their powder dry and move for Allan, and then Abdoulaye Doucoure, in the summer.

Since Brands' arrival as director of football in 2018, the Blues have only made one signing in the winter window. Jarrad Branthwaite came in from Carlisle United earlier this year for £750,000.
