Carlo Ancelotti has fingers crossed after Everton injury blow

Everton should learn the full extent of Mason Holgate's injury today as Carlo Ancelotti crosses his fingers he will be fit to face Southampton.

Holgate lasted only 36 minutes against Spurs last night before being forced off with what appeared to be a shin issue sustained in a challenge with Giovani Lo Celso.

The defender received treatment on the injury but carried on for only four more minutes before dropping to the turf and then limping off.

Straight after the 1-0 defeat, Ancelotti says he full extent of the problem was not yet known but tests at Finch Farm today would give a clear indication of whether he will be fit for Thursday's game with Southampton at Goodison.

He said: "I honestly don't know what happened.  We are going to check on him tomorrow.  I hope he can recover."

Djibril Sidibe, who had missed the opening three games of the re-start, came off the bench late on against Spurs.
