Carlo Ancelotti has asked Alex Iwobi to name his preferred position, just as he did with Andrea Pirlo!

Everton manager Caro Ancelotti has challenged his versatile forward Alex Iwobi to reveal his "preferred position" to him.

The Nigeria international posted a message on social media channel Instagram earlier this week celebrating his call up for two AFCON ties, but also saying he hoped he would get to play in his preferred position.

It was unclear whether the message was directed towards national team boss Gernot Rohr, or Ancelotti who has selected Iwobi in a variety of positions this season including right and left wing-backs and left wing.

Ancelotti was smiling when he said at today's press conference: "Yes. I read the post and I want to speak with him, of course.

"I would like to know his preferred position because usually I want to put players on the pitch where they are comfortable playing, not where they are uncomfortable.

"And if he has an idea where he prefers to play I have to know. I want to know

"I would be delighted to know his preferred position. I will put him in his preferred position for sure. No doubt.

"And I have to tell him, I am going to tell him 'Tell me, tell me! I am your manager. Tell me where you prefer to play."

Ancelotti added that he had a similar conversation with Italian great Andrea Pirlo when he managed the legendary playmaker at AC Milan.

"When I thought to put Pirlo as a holding midfielder, I asked him 'do you like to play there or not?'" added Ancelotti.

" 'Yes he said to me. I love to play there.' And so I put him there.

"If he (Iwobi) wants to play No.10 or No. 9 I will put him no.10 or no.9. I have no problem. I cannot help the system."
