Carlo Ancelotti gives verdict on Jordan Pickford performance for Everton against Man United

Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with Jordan Pickford's reaction as he returned to the Everton team after being rested.

Pickford was named on the bench for the game with Newcastle United last weekend and watched the on-loan Robin Olsen make an impressive debut.

Ancelotti insisted Pickford would be recalled for today's game with Manchester United and the Everton boss kept to his promise and named the 26-year-old in the line-up.

The Blues manager said Pickford could do nothing about United's opening two goals in the 3-1 defeat and highlighted his save to deny Marcus Rashford, to keep the scores at 2-1.

Pickford would survive a VAR review following appeals from United that Harry Maguire had been fouled by the goalkeeper after he spilled a cross.

But the VAR ruled there was no foul with replays also appearing to show Maguire pushing Pickford as he jumped for the ball.

"He was good," said Ancelotti. "He had nothing to do with the two goals we conceded [in the first-half].
