Carlo Ancelotti gives verdict on Jordan Pickford and 'satisfying' Everton performance vs Liverpool

Carlo Ancelotti declared himself "really satisfied" with Everton's performance in a pulsating derby draw with Liverpool.

The Blues responded to going behind after three minutes when Michael Keane's header cancelled out Sadio Mane's opener.

Everton would hit the post through Richarlison after the break but fall behind again when Mohamed Salah capitalised on a poor Yerry Mina clearance 13 minutes from time.

But top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin leapt highest to head home a Lucas Digne cross to make it 2-2.

Richarlison was sent off in the final minute to hand Liverpool a one-man advantage and the visitors thought they had won it in time added on when Jordan Henderson swept home Mane's cross, but the VAR ruled it out for offside.

"It is true, we could win, draw or lose [today]," Ancelotti said. "The performance was good. We wanted to compete and in the end we competed really well.

"We never lost confidence, we were able to equalise the game two times. We had an opportunity to go up but we hit the post with Richarlison.

"Apart from the result, the performance was satisfying. I am really satisfied."

He added: "When you concede a goal you have to defend better. We have to defend better in certain situations but against Liverpool, it is a really, really difficult game, defensively and offensively."

On Pickford, who endured a rollercoaster afternoon, he said: "I think he played a good game, like the others.

"A good performance. I am not worried."
