Carlo Ancelotti gives Everton injury update on James Rodriguez for Tottenham FA Cup clash

Carlo Ancelotti says that James Rodriguez and Jordan Pickford will need late fitness checks to assess whether they can face Tottenham in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

The Toffees have been in decent form heading into the cup clash at Goodison Park, with an unexpected 2-0 defeat against Newcastle followed by a win away at Leeds United and a late comeback to secure a point against Manchester United in a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Rodriguez started in the draw against United at Old Trafford and scored a goal before being forced off with 20 minutes remaining.

Ancelotti said that decision was taken as a precaution due to a problem with his calf muscle, but after training on Tuesday afternoon the midfielder will be assessed to see if he can face Jose Mourinho's side.

"He had a little problem on his calf, a tight calf," Ancelotti told reporters. "I took him off after 70 minutes to avoid risk.

"If he's ready to play tomorrow he will play, if the calf is still tight he will play on Sunday."

Pickford, meanwhile has missed the last two matches with Robin Olsen filling in. Ancelotti stated that the keeper would also have a late fitness check.

However, he added that the club have confidence in Olsen to feature should he be needed again, despite a small error last time out against Man United.

"He is a good signing," Ancelotti said of Olsen, who joined Everton on a season-long loan from Italian side Roma in October.

"We are happy with his performances.

"He made a mistake against United when he slipped but it doesn't matter. We have confidence and trust because he is a good goalkeeper."

Spurs will line up on Wednesday after ending a poor run of form, with three defeats in a row against Liverpool, Brighton and Chelsea followed by a win against West Brom last time out.

Harry Kane was back for that fixture, but whether he starts again at Goodison Park remains to be seen, with a vital Premier League fixture away at Manchester City on Saturday evening coming up.
