Carlo Ancelotti explains why he joined Everton and outlines Champions League aims

Carlo Ancelotti admits Everton's new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium attracted him to Merseyside and hopes to take the club into the Champions League.

The final images of Bramley-Moore were released on Monday morning ahead of the manager's first press conference since replacing Marco Silva and Everton are aiming to open the 2023/24 campaign at the proposed 52,000 seater.

Ancelotti has lifted three Champions League titles over the course of a storied career and also experienced Premier League glory during a two-year stint at Chelsea.

, who remain in the bottom-half of the Premier League table after Saturday's draw with Arsenal , the Italian explained: "The tradition, the history of the club.

"It is one of the biggest clubs in England. It is true I have managed the top teams. At PSG the project was really good. The ambition of the club really attracted me. Here it is like that.

"It is not true I only manage top teams.

"I managed in Italy in Championship at the beginning and after I managed Parma, it was not a top top team. I landed a team that has ambition and an idea how to reach the exercise.

"Here, I went to the training ground yesterday. It is fantastic. The fact the club want to build a new stadium is a clear idea they want success.

"It takes time. I don't know how long. For me it would be good to be here when the new stadium opens. This is what attracted me."

He added: "If in three years the stadium is built it will be good. It is true revenue in football now is really important.

"But Everton want to improve, build a new stadium and improve the revenue to be one of the top teams in the Premier League."

Ancelotti did not shy away from admitting his long-term goal is to take Everton into the Champions League.

The Blues finished fourth under David Moyes in 2005 but failed to make the group stages after a qualifying round defeat to Spanish outfit Villarreal.

With Everton currently four points above the relegation zone in the Premier League, the former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid manager explained his aims at Goodison Park.

"To improve in the table and be closer to the top than the bottom, that's it," he said of the short-term, with Burnley set to visit Goodison Park on Boxing Day.

"Our goal is to play better football. These players have the potential to play better. I have seen the last four games and Duncan [Ferguson] done a fantastic job.

"I would like to put on the team a good style of football. I don't know if I am able but I will try."

He added: "The long-term objective is to be competitive in the Premier League. But the goal of the club needs to be this [Champions League]. This is the goal."
