Carlo Ancelotti explains why Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin can become one of Europe's best strikers

Carlo Ancelotti believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the potential to become one of "the best strikers in Europe".

The Everton boss hailed the young striker after he signed a new five-year contract with the club on Friday evening.

Ancelotti has worked with the likes of Andriy Shevchenko, Didier Drogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Hernan Crespo and Cristiano Ronaldo during his career so far to name but a few.

Since the Italian arrived at Goodison in December, Calvert-Lewin has scored eight goals in the Premier League - more than any other player in the top flight during that period.

The 22-year-old striker joined Mason Holgate in committing his future to the club and Ancelotti explained how the frontman's expansive range of qualities and his character and attitude make him a top player and prospect for the future.

“Dominic is a very important player for us and for the future of Everton ,” he said.

“He is a player with a lot of quality.

“Dominic has all the attributes to become one of the best strikers in England and in Europe. He is fast, has good skills, is strong in the air and works extremely hard for the team.

“He also has a fantastic mentality and his desire to improve has impressed me ever since I came to the club.

“I am very happy he has signed this new contract, in the same week Mason Holgate committed his future to the club, and I am confident they will be important players as we aim to bring success to Everton.”
