Carlo Ancelotti explains why Everton have been able to win three games in a week

Carlo Ancelotti says Everton's “spirit” has driven the club to second in the table after three straight victories.

The Blues boss admits his side have not been playing “fantastic, attacking football” of late but says they have defeated Chelsea, Leicester City and Arsenal because of their desire.

Everton took the lead against the Gunners at Goodison after Rob Holding deflected Dominic Calvert-Lewin's header past his own goalkeeper before Yerry Mina's header restored their lead after Arsenal had equalised from the spot.

And Ancelotti has hailed the work-rate and determination of his squad as they have overcome injuries to emerge from three tough fixtures with nine points and second place in the standings.

“We are in a good position in the table,” he said after tonight's 2-1 win.

“We showed, in the last three games, a lot of spirit and consistency."

Ancelotti added: “We had some injuries to important players but also tonight we were able to adapt.
