Carlo Ancelotti has opened up on how he 'sacrificed' the position of Dominic Calvert-Lewin to help Everton beat West Bromwich Albion on Thursday evening.
The Blues secured an important three points from what was a lacklustre performance overall at The Hawthorns thanks to a header from Richarlison in the second half.
The Brazilian was found inside the box to score by a pinpoint cross from Gylfi Sigurdsson, who was brought off the bench as Ancelotti switched his side's tactics.
Both the Iceland international and Allan were introduced in quick succession as the Blues switched to the diamond formation in midfield which helped them to a victory over Southampton on Monday.
Everton looked much better after the switch, and Ancelotti admitted he had to "sacrifice" the position of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the good of the team.
He said following the match: "I changed the shape only for one reason - to give, let's say, more opportunity to Gylfi and Richarlison to stay close to the ball.
"I sacrificed a little bit the position of Dominic, who was playing a little bit centre-right, to give Richarlison less work defensively and more work offensively."
