Carlo Ancelotti delivers mixed Everton injury update with Fabian Delph priority explained

Carlo Ancelotti expects Fabian Delph to return before the end of the elongated Premier League season.

But the Everton manager believes the trip to Wolverhampton Wanders on Sunday will come too soon for the midfielder.

Andre Gomes will be assessed in training tomorrow after suffering an ankle injury in the draw with Southampton on Thursday while Yerry Mina is expected to be fit.

“He is recovering but it takes time because he had an injury on his thigh that he had before," Ancelotti said when asked about former Manchester City star Delph.

“He has to recover well. I am sure he will be able to come back before the end of the season but the priority is to recover well and properly.”

Gomes has started every game since the Premier League restart after suffering a horrific ankle fracture against Tottenham Hotspur in November.

He was forced off against Southampton in midweek but Ancelotti is positive about his chances for Sunday.

“He is not a big problem, he had a knock on his ankle," the Italian said. "Today he is a little stiff but we hope he can play Sunday.

“We will check tomorrow.”
