Carlo Ancelotti coy on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Everton transfer links but admits he's a 'good player'

Carlo Ancelotti was coy when asked if he was keen on signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.

Everton have been credited with showing interest in the 24-year-old who has entered the final year of his deal at St Mary's.

Hojbjerg was stripped of the Saints' captaincy last month after refusing to sign a new contract and the Blues are one of several clubs linked with an interest in signing him this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be keen on Hojbjerg and reports suggest they could be front-runners for his signature.

Ancelotti was giving little away when asked about any interest from Everton in the Danish international but did not deny the reports.

"I know Hojbjerg, he’s a good player," the Blues boss said.

"He is playing for Southampton, so I don’t want to talk about another Premier League player and that we are playing against soon. I can give an opinion about him at the end of the season."

Ancelotti was definitive, however, when asked about the prospect of having to sell any of Everton's top performers this summer.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City have, this week, said to see Lucas Digne as an alternative to their first-choice left-back target Ben Chillwell.

But Ancelotti was not mincing his words when asked if Digne, or any of the club's leading players, could be sold.

"At this moment, there are a lot of rumours," he said.

"Lucas Digne is an important player for us, so there is no way that he can leave."
