Carlo Ancelotti confirms transfer plan and issues Everton injury update

Carlo Ancelotti has reiterated Everton's need to bring in a centre-back in the transfer window following injuries to both Jarrad Branthwaite and Mason Holgate.

The former was taken off in the first half of the Blues' 3-0 win over Salford City on Wednesday, while his teammate picked up an injury in the final pre-season match of the summer against Preston earlier this month.

The manager has confirmed that Branthwaite will be facing a few weeks on the sidelines, while also updating supporters on the condition of Holgate's problem as things stand.

Ancelotti told his pre-West Brom press conference: "He [Branthwaite] had a problem on his ankle, he's out for a least three-five weeks.

"He doesn't need surgery but he has to rest for one month. Mason Holgate is out and the other players are all fit and ready to play.

"I have to follow the advice of the doctors, of the medical staff. He's [Holgate] out for two or three months.

"Honestly he feels good in this moment, he's walking in the swimming pool without any problem. But I think we have to wait a little bit."

That leaves Everton somewhat short of options in central defence, with only Michael Keane and Yerry Mina as senior members of the squad in that position.

And Ancelotti believes the club will be on the hunt for a centre-back this summer, but refused to be drawn on speculation regarding Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori in particular.

"Honestly we are looking for a centre-back, if the market offers something I think that we can have one," the Italian added.

"Now we are only with Yerry Mina and Michael Keane, but we are looking for another one.

"Tomori plays in Chelsea! So don't ask me this."
