Carlo Ancelotti confirms six Everton players ruled out for Sheffield Wednesday due to injury

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed a number of key injury absences for Everton's FA Cup fourth round clash with Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.

Lucas Digne, Alex Iwobi and Niels Nkounkou will be out of this weekend's fixture - although the manager revealed that the former pair would be fit again for the Blues' next match with Leicester in midweek.

Meanwhile, the boss reiterated that a number of longer-term absences from the Everton squad would remain that way.

The Italian told his pre-Sheffield Wednesday press conference: "Unfortunately we have some players out like Gbamin, Allan, Delph, Digne, Iwobi and Nkounkou.

"But the others are in good condition and are ready to play this game, and are ready to compete in this competition that is important."

In better injury news for Everton, Ancelotti confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be available once more.

The striker has missed his side's last two matches, but is back in contention for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday to Goodison.

And his manager strongly hinted that the 23-year-old would be able to start on Sunday without any issue, despite a clash with Leicester shortly following in midweek.

"We have back Calvert-Lewin for the game," he added.

"Honestly, I want to put out the best line-up possible for the game against Sheffield, because we don't want to think about Leicester.

"The Leicester game is after, we want to move on in this competition and I think Dominic can start.

"He trained well, he's in a good physical condition and so I think he can play."

The Everton manager was also asked about a potential return for Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The midfielder hasn't played a match for the Blues since August 2019 after suffering multiple long-term injuries, and is currently working his way back to full fitness.

Ancelotti remarked: "I think that we have to look at him day-by-day.

"He's following his individual programme like Allan and like Delph, so I think soon he can be able to train with us.

"We don't want to put pressure on him because he was out for a long time. When he comes back, he has to be ready.

"For sure, he will come back."
