Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Jordan Pickford has his full backing and the club are still in the market for another centre-back.
Pickford picked up some criticism for his performance in the League Cup victory over Fleetwood Town on Wednesday night, with the Blues eventually emerging 5-2 winners.
Many believed that the England No.1 was at fault for the two Town goals and bemoaned a number of mistakes that he has recently made.
But when asked whether he was concerned with Pickford’s form and if he still had his backing, Ancelotti issued a firm defence of his goalkeeper.
He said: "There is a lot of focus on him but, I have to be honest, he started really well and did a fantastic match against Tottenham.
“I am not really focused on him, like you.
"He is a great goalkeeper. He has my total confidence.”
The Blues have been linked with Sergio Romero over the last few days, but the Italian revealed the club are not looking at bringing in another goalkeeper this summer.
"We are not looking for this,” Ancelotti replied when asked at his media briefing to preview tomorrow’s game with Crystal Palace.
But the Blues boss did confirm that the club are continuing in their search of a centre-back in a bid to bolster their defensive options before the transfer window closes next month.
He said: "We are looking for a centre-back. If there is an opportunity then we are ready to catch."
