Carlo Ancelotti confirms extent of Jean-Philippe Gbamin Everton injury and ligament damage fears

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Jean-Philippe Gbamin's season is over after suffering potential medial ligament damage in Everton training.

The Blues confirmed on Monday afternoon that the 25-year-old had not travelled with the rest of the squad to face Brighton and was set to have a scan on Tuesday after suffering a "contact knee injury" at Finch Farm.

The Ivory Coast international had made his return to the pitch for his side for the first time in 597 days last week after being introduced from the bench against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

However, the Everton manager confirmed his season was now over after suffering suspected medial ligament damage, following Lucas Digne accidentally falling on his teammate's leg in training.

Ancelotti remarked: "Listen, we are really, really sad.

"He was training well, he was showing good quality, he was happy - then back again, another injury.

"He's going to have a scan, I don't know how long [he'll be out] but I think for sure the season for him is finished. But I think that he's a really strong guy, because he accepted this.

"He's focused to recover, and I hope that soon he can recover and play.

"He had, practically, Digne fall down on his knee unfortunately. The knee stayed down and he had this, I think, ligament problem. Medial ligament."
