Carlo Ancelotti compares Real Madrid star to Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti believes star striker Karim Benzema is currently on the same goalscoring level as Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland.

Benzema, 34, remains the main attacking talisman at Madrid and netted another stunning brace in their midweek win over Athletic Bilbao.

The French veteran is the leading scorer in La Liga this season and has played a key role in guiding Madrid to the top of the table, where they already hold an eight-point lead over second-place Sevilla.

Benzema's attacking output will be crucial to ensuring Madrid have a successful season in the New Year and Ancelotti even thinks the former Lyon man is 'the best striker in the world' on current form.

"I think so, because to his game he's added a massive, regular ability to put the ball in the back of the net," Ancelotti told AS. "He's at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo or (Erling) Haaland.

"Benzema is a player who makes a difference. We saw it once again in the game against Athletic, with two goals in quick succession. He's in amazing form."

Benzema has 20 goals in 23 appearances for Real Madrid this season, while Ronaldo has 13 in 19 for Manchester United and Haaland has 19 in 16 for Borussia Dortmund.
