Carlo Ancelotti has opened up on potential contract talks with Everton captain Seamus Coleman, and revealed why the club are in no rush.
The Republic of Ireland international is under contract at Goodison Park until 2022, having been with the Blues since his £60k move from Sligo Rovers in January 2009.
The 32-year-old has played a key role under Ancelotti since his arrival on Merseyside in December 2019, with the manager rating his captain's leadership qualities highly.
And the Italian is in no rush to discuss a new contract with the right back, as he considers Coleman to have a contract "forever" with Everton.
Ancelotti told evertontv : “I don’t think we have to talk about the [Coleman’s] contract.
“The contract that Seamus has with the club and this team is forever.
“It doesn’t mean one-year long or two years long.
“Seamus’ contract with Everton is forever.”
Coleman made his 345th appearance for the Blues in Friday's 1-0 win away to Arsenal with a typically energetic display at right back, with a strong celebration at the final whistle.
Earlier this month, director of football Marcel Brands discussed his desire to offer Coleman a new contract and keep the defender with the club beyond his playing career.
The Dutchman remarked: "What you just said, he’s not only a fantastic player but a great character in the dressing room, a great professional.
“I’m now already in talks with him to get him involved in, let’s say, things off the pitch.
“He’s definitely someone I really want to keep in the club after he finishes his career. He’s a great example for everyone.”
