Carlisle United poised to welcome back key player for Bolton Wanderers clash

Carlisle United are poised to welcome back top scorer Jon Mellish for the Boxing Day visit of Bolton Wanderers.

The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals for the Cumbrians so far this season.

The midfielder was suspended for the club's last match against Forest Green Rovers having picked up five yellow cards so far this campaign which attracts a one-match ban.

That punishment has now been served and Mellish is free to return for the encounter at Brunton Park.

Defender Rod McDonald could also return to the Carlisle squad after overcoming an injury.

Ahead of the Boxing Day match, Carlisle boss Chris Beech is intending to let his players spend Christmas Day with their families before taking on the Trotters.

He told the News & Star : "They’ll get some rest. I want them to spend it with their families.

“I’m quite comfortable with them doing that because life is all about your family in my personal opinion.

“I want them to make sure they enjoy that day, obviously behave correctly, and I want all of our Carlisle fans to enjoy their day as well.

“I hope everyone has a good Christmas then we can all get back together again for that important game against Bolton.

“I’m very much looking forward to the future and what the Christmas period will bring us.”
