Carla DiBello hints at Newcastle United takeover after liking an Instagram comment

Carla DiBello has previously been linked with taking over Newcastle United and she may have just dropped a big hint.

Earlier this year, the Magpies were close to being sold by controversial owner Mike Ashley for around £300million.

Financier Amanda Staveley was leading the bid which involved Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, as well as the Reuben Brothers.

The sovereign wealth fund is headed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, whose reported net worth is around £7bn.

However, the proposed takeover - which excited Newcastle supporters - fell through in August, after the Saudi-backed consortium rejected the Premier League's offer of arbitration to decide who would be running the club.

For Magpies fans, they will be desperate for some sort of takeover to still take place and DiBello may be their answer.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the 36-year-old Florida-born businesswoman pitched the idea of buying Newcastle early in 2019 to the Saudi consortium.

Now, DiBello, who has over 600,000 followers on Instagram, has liked a comment regarding the takeover of the Magpies.

The post was a video from a rooftop with the camera panning around to see the view of Al Balad, a historical area of Jeddah, which is the second largest city in Saudi Arabia.

A comment read: "Final touches to the Newcastle takeover?" - and with that, DiBello liked the message on her official and verified Instagram account.

Current owner Ashley has been in charge of Newcastle since taking over in 2007, but has not had the best of relationships with supporters.

At the start of the 2019/20 season, a collection of the club's fans led a protest march that started in the Newcastle city centre and ended at St. James' Park ahead of the opening game of the campaign versus Arsenal.
