Carl Starfelt to Celtic deal agreed but defender set for anxious transfer wait

Celtic have reportedly agreed a £4.5m deal to sign Carl Starfelt but could face a wait in getting him into Scotland.

Ange Postecoglou has moved to sign the Swedish centre-back from Rubin Kazan as his rebuild at the Premiership giants gathers pace.

The manager added Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi to his ranks last week but it could be a fortnight before the latter gets out on the training pitch.

Red tape could also slow down Starfelt's arrival, according to the Daily Record.

The 26-year-old defender is said to be waiting on a work visa and clearance to enter the UK amid continued travel restrictions and quarantine requirements.

Celtic kick off their Champions League qualifying campaign against Danish side Midtjylland on Tuesday night.

On Monday, the draw for the third qualifying round will be made in advance of the second round.

If Celtic beat the Danes, they could face one of Genk, Sparta Prague, PSV Eindhoven, Galatasaray, Spartak Moscow or Rapid Vienna.
