Carl Starfelt makes difficult Celtic start admission as he praises 'great leader' Postecoglou

Carl Starfelt admits he’s faced difficult moments at the start of his Celtic career but he now feels more confident.

The 26-year-old defender has received criticism for his performances since his £4.5 million summer arrival from Rubin Kazan.

Starfelt was thrown in the deep end against Hearts for his debut at Tynecastle and he failed to convince.

The Swedish international looked shaky against Jabolonec in Europe and scored a comical own goal against AZ Alkmaar in the same competition.

It’s not easy to settle into life in a new country but Starfelt is beginning to feel comfortable in Glasgow.

“I have played football for a long time and I know you will have difficult moments.

“But then every player will have difficult moments. You’ve got to just push through them mentally and if you keep working hard it will turn around and that’s what I’m trying to do.

“I try to work hard every day and keep my confidence up and that’s what my focus is on.

“I feel like I have more to give. I feel like it’s getting better.

“I feel more secure for every game. I just need to keep working hard and hopefully I will only grow.”

Celtic are improving under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou after an unconvincing start to his tenure as manager.

The Australian has implemented a clear tactical plan and Starfelt lavished praise on his leadership skills.

He said: “He’s a great leader and he knows what he wants and he’s very clear about that.

“It’s very important the coach is very clear with the way he wants to play so we know what we have to do when we go out onto the pitch.

“So far he’s been very clear to all the players.”
