Carl Starfelt completes Celtic transfer as Ange Postecolgou replaces Kris Ajer after Brentford move

Carl Starfelt has been confirmed as Celtic ’s latest signing.

The Swedish international defender has joined from Russian side Rubin Kazan an a four-year deal for a reported fee in the region of £4million.

The 26-year-old’s arrival bolsters Ange Postecolgou ’s defensive options after Kris Ajer’s departure to Brentford.

Starfelt underwent his medical earlier this week and his switch to the Scottish Premiership has now been confirmed.

The former IFK Goteborg defender made 42 appearances in total for Kazan in two years, scoring three goals.

Starfelt is the third Hoops addition in seven days following Israeli winger Liel Abada and Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi

Celtic drew against FC Midtjylland last night in the first leg of their Champions League second-round qualifier ahead of the second leg next Wednesday.

Given Russia is on the amber list for travel, Starfelt will be required to isolate when he lands in Scotland so won't be in contention to play.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said: “I am really pleased agreement has been reached and we are really looking forward to Carl joining up with the squad. Carl is an experienced player and someone with the attributes to be a real success at Celtic.

"He is a strong, athletic and committed defender and will add quality to our squad. I am sure he will be a player our supporters will welcome warmly and someone who will be really important for us going forward.”
