Carl Starfelt Celtic transfer news as Rubin Kazan decision offers clue to defender's future

Celtic target Carl Starfelt started for Rubin Kazan in their friendly win over Khimki as it appears a move is not immediately imminent.

With Kris Ajer heading for the Parkhead exit door, manager Ange Postecoglou is looking to sign another centre-back.

Swedish stopper Starfelt has been linked with a £4million move as the time ticks toward the beginning of the season.

However, any hope that he'd be flying into Glasgow over the weekend has been dashed as Starfelt started as his side beat Khimki 1-0.

It's just 10 days until Celtic face FC Midtjylland in their first Champions League qualifier and there's still plenty of work on the market to be done.

Osaze Urhoghide has arrivede from Sheffield Wednesday, with Liam Shaw previously brought in, but the rebuild hasn't started in earnest.

Fans will hope Starfelt will be the man to trigger it, with Rubin Kazan confirming that there is a clause in his contract that would see IFK Goteborg get a big chunk.

IFK Gothenburg's sports manager Pontus Farnerud revealed to GP : "We have a resale clause on most of the players we have sold including Starfelt.

"I can not comment on numbers or percentages."
