Carl Starfelt Celtic injury clue as Sweden boss eases fears with eight word response

Carl Starfelt's injury for Celtic may not be as bad as first feared due to an admission from the Swede's national boss.

The defender was taken off at half time during the Hoops' 3-0 win over Hearts in the Scottish Cup last weekend, with new signing Yuki Kobayashi benefitting from 45 minutes alongside key man Cameron Carter-Vickers. Ange Postecoglou's men booked their place in the final four with a tantalising clash with rivals Rangers set for next month after the two go head-to-head in league action.

But while Starfelt's knock may have caused initial concern, Sweden gaffer Janne Andersson seems to have allayed fears by picking the 27-year-old in his squad for upcoming games with Belgium and Azerbaijan. He also commented that the 'forecast' on the Celtic centre-half wasn't looking bad.

He commented: "The forecast with Carl Starfelt is quite positive."

Then added: "He should be available otherwise I would not have called him."

Postecoglou said following the weekend's win over Hearts: "He felt a niggle in his hip flexor during the warm-up actually, he felt it early on in the game but we got it through to half-time and we could see he wasn't moving well in the first half.

"You could see he wasn't his normal self so we made the change."
