Carl Robinson on 4 man Dundee United next manager shortlist as former Western Sydney boss in the running

Carl Robinson is on Dundee United's four-man shortlist to replace Jack Ross.

The former Vancouver Whitecaps, Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers manager is competing with Kevin Thomson, Dean Holden and current interim boss Liam Fox for the top job at Tannadice. Record Sport revealed last week that United chiefs had whittled their options down to a final four as they seek to make an appointment over the international break.

And it's understood Robinson, who racked up 52 caps for Wales during his playing career, is in the running to take over on Tayside. He last managed in Australia with Western Sydney for almost two years. Former Scotland star Kenny Miller was Robinson's number two at the A-League club before he returned to Scotland. The 45-year-old ex-Wolves and Sunderland midfielder has been out of the game since leaving Wanderers in January 2022 but could now be offered a way back via the Scottish Premiership.

Also under consideration is former Kelty Hearts manager Thomson after he quit the League One club back in May. He interviewed for the Kilmarnock job before it went to Derek McInnes and has now spoken to United as he plots a return to the dugout. Interim gaffer Fox is believed to be the favourite for the role but Holden, who has managed Oldham Athletic and Bristol City, is also a candidate.
