Carl Froch willing to fight Jake Paul without training in plan to "beat up" YouTube star

Carl Froch would be willing to make a comeback and "beat up" YouTube star Jake Paul in a boxing clash.

Froch has not fought since infamously defeating George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium back in 2014 and entering retirement. On previous occasions 'Cobra' has come close to making a ring return with reports previously indicating Froch would face Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition fight.

The Sheffield star has yet to make a return to the ring but has been outspoken about YouTube star Paul's boxing career. And Froch would be so confident of beating Paul that he would be willing to touch gloves without any kind of training.

“I would yeah, because I wouldn’t consider that to be a fight,” Froch told the Daily Star when asked if he would consider fighting Paul. "I know he’s doing what he is doing, and he is improving, and he has people that want to watch him box, which is great, fair play to him.

"But somebody like that, how do I put it, if I tried to play football against the top clubs, it’s going to be pointless me being on the bench, or me playing tennis against the top players. Jake Paul, is playing at being a professional boxer, but he is not. He can’t really fight, he knows how to stand up straight and he knows how to swing a punch, but he’s not a professional boxer.

"So to answer your question, if Jake Paul called me out, then absolutely. I wouldn’t even train for it, I’d take him on, I’d beat him up, and I’d get a good pay day because it’s Jake Paul, then I would go home happy." Froch has a superb record having scored 33 victories during his time in the professional ranks with just two defeats against Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler.

Froch was also heavily linked with an exhibition against undefeated Welshman Joe Calzaghe who British fans clamoured for Froch to meet when the pair were at the peak of their powers. However it looks unlikely that Froch will return in the near future with talks not yet indicated over a return to the ring.

Paul has faced critics for his short boxing career that has seen him pick up five victories against the likes of former UFC champion Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. The YouTube star is yet to face an opponent with a natural background in boxing, but has impressed many by agreeing to face heavyweight Hasim Rahman Jr in his next fight.

The 27-year-old was due to settle his rivalry with Tommy Fury but the Briton was forced to shelve his plans after being banned from travelling to the US. Rahman Jr boasts a record of twelve professional victories with one defeat and has had an extensive amateur background in the sport.
