Carl Froch and George Groves have fuelled talk of a trilogy fight in their latest Twitter exchange.

Froch, 41, hung up his gloves after his second victory over Groves at Wembley in 2014 with Groves announcing his retirement earlier this year.

Groves famously knocked down Froch for just the second time in his career in the opening round of their first fight in November 2013 before the Nottingham fighter secured a hugely controversial TKO win in the ninth round.

In a rematch the following year, Froch scored a more convincing victory, savagely knocking the Londoner out cold in the eighth.

Froch has since told iFL TV he would happily come of retirement for a third fight.

“I’m not going to come out of retirement and fight one of the tops boys, but I’d come out of retirement to fight someone I feel I can do the business with,” Froch said.

“It’s giving the fans what they want. Even though I’m enjoying retirement and I retired at the right time, there’s definitely one more in me.”

In response, Groves wrote on Twitter: "Mate, I’ve retired you once, don’t make me do it again.”

And in a tweet the former middleweight champion has since deleted, Froch responded: “Listen up, Grovesy Boy, your banter gets you nowhere but horizontal. And let’s be honest ‘mate’, it is not a hard one to make.”

Froch and Groves were recently reunited as part of the Sky Sports punditry team on the recent Dave Allen vs Lucas Browne card.

Groves, 31, announced his retirement in January after losing his WBA strap to Callum Smith in the final of the World Boxing Super Series last October.
