Carl Frampton weight loss ordeal revealed as Jackal begins training camp ahead of August return

Carl Frampton has revealed how much weight he will need to shed before stepping back into the ring this summer.

The Jackal returned to his Manchester training camp this week to kick-start preparations for his next fight.

Frampton is expected to fight on either August 10 or 24, potentially in Boston.

It will be a tune-up before targeting a world title showdown with Oscar Valdez at the end of the year for the Mexican's WBO world featherweight title.

The featherweight limit is 9st dead (or 126lbs).

Speaking to JOE following his return to camp, Frampton revealed what his current weight is.

"I arrived back at camp at 151.8lbs (10st 11.8lbs)," the 32-year-old said.

"I would usually be about 12 pounds over going into fight week. If I lose two pounds a week this time I will go into fight week 8 or 10lbs over.

"It always sounds difficult when you break it down like that.

"I am always about this weight when I start a camp. I am about two pounds heavier than I was when I started the (Josh) Warrington camp. And I have had a longer break this time.

"It is what it is. You do it, you lose the weight.

"Ricky Hatton used to take off four stone. So I can take off two. Just under two, actually."

Frampton suffered his second defeat as a professional last December when he was out-gunned by Josh Warrington in Manchester.

The devastating loss almost led to the North Belfast fighter retiring, but now he is back and plotting another world title challenge.

"I feel good. I feel confident," he said.

"I took a long break before deciding to continue. I didn't want to bow out on a defeat like that.

"I still believe I can win a world title. I can beat the top guys on a good day, I just need to perform.

"Leo Santa Cruz, Oscar Valdez, Josh Warrington, all these guys."

Frampton says a venue, date and opponent for his comeback fight will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

"At this moment in time no opponent has been mentioned," he said.

"I have no idea who it will be.

"These first few weeks are all about losing some weight and getting fit. Then we will finalise everything else."
