Carl Frampton vs Jamel Herring: Jackal outlines retirement plans as he prepares for Dubai bout

Carl Frampton has offered an insight into his retirement plans.

At 34 years of age, the Jackal accepts he is approaching the final bell in his glittering boxing career.

He will look to cement his legacy on April 3 by becoming Ireland's first ever three-weight world champion.

That's when he will fight Jamel Herring for the American's WBO super-featherweight world title in Dubai.

As for the future, Frampton knows there aren't too many fights, and big nights, left in his career.

"I'm 34 now. I won't be boxing when I'm 36, I'll tell you that," he told Belfast Live.

"I know there isn't too long left, and I will get out at the right time. But I still have a few fights left in me."

The Jackal added: "I think my kids Carla and Rossa are looking forward to me retiring.

"And Christine, hopefully, too. I am not sure. Me being around the house all the time might not be brilliant.

"It is a hard game and I am looking forward to, when that point comes, spending the rest of my life with Christine and the kids and just being dedicated to them, rather than having boxing always making the decisions for me. And not being able to do things because of what my job is.

"There are a few fights left, but there aren't five fights. Put it that way."

As for his retirement plan, Frampton admits he has no grand plans when he does finally hang up the gloves for good.

"I just want to chill out," he said.

"I don't have too much of a plan. I'd be happy not having to do that much. I'd be happy just spending time with my family.

"I don't need much, to be honest. Im not materialistic. I just like the small, simply things."

As for the perfect exit plan from boxing, victory against Herring on April 3 would be the icing on the cake for Frampton, and it's a plan Top Rank promoter Bob Arum would be keen to push through.

Opponents have already been mentioned, such as Oscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson.

If Frampton wins on April 3, he would love to sign off with a homecoming fight in Belfast - not that he is looking beyond Jamel Herring.

"It is one fight at a time. I am fully focused on Jamel Herring," he said.

"Another fight at home would be great, wouldn't it. There deserves to be a crowd at my last fight, I think it would be good to have a send-off with a packed audience somewhere."
