Carl Frampton vs Jamel Herring fight date emerges for UK clash

Carl Frampton appears to be closing in on a date for his fight with Jamel Herring.

The pair were originally due to meet last June in Belfast before the onset of coronavirus postponed the clash.

Frampton returned to action in August with a stoppage win over Darren Traynor, while Herring retained his WBO world super-featherweight title with a disqualification win over Jonathan Oquendo one month later.

They were tune-up fights for both fighters, who are now being lined up to meet on February 27 in the UK, according to The Athletic.

Boxing in the UK is suspended during January, in response to rising Covid-19 figures, but it is hoped that bouts will resume next month.

That would allow Frampton-Herring to finally happen, offering The Jackal the chance to become Ireland's first-ever three-weight world champion.

Whoever prevails, they could end up defending the WBO title against highly-rated Shakur Stevenson later in 2021.
